Rhetorical Risks

Image
Tess Holiday on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine generated a fair bit of controversy online and even in mainstream news. The magazine is trying to promote body positivity and that idea that all body types are beautiful. People countered with the argument that promoting that kind of body type as being desierable would be harmful to people because of the fact that being morbidly obeese is horrible for your body. I imagine that Cosmopolitan knew what it was doing with this cover and expected it to generate controversy and revenue. Thoes risks seemed to have payed off, as the cover generated lots of discourse online and from people in the news cycle. While the magazine is based in the UK, the controversy still made its way into the U.S.A with people talking about it on Twitter. The article generated a ton of publicity and revenue for Cosmopolitan. Its safe to say that this article acheived what the editors set out to do in creating one of the most controversial covers...

Would You Rather

September 22, 2023          When prompted with the question "would you rather have to sing, or dance whenever you heard music" I though to myself, "what would Ben Franklin do?". Ben Franklin was a lover of music and even created some of his own instruments, so I beleive that he would rather sing than dance whenever he heard music. Also, taking into account the fact that I'm a much better singer than dancer, this is definitely the right course of action. The question also doesn't specify how large or small the song needs to be. Humming or bareley singing at all is completely fine and seems to align with the principles of the question. Either way, it would be super annoying to have that happen everytime a song comes on.
